Text 1
HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED why clear skies are sometimes deep blue and at other times almost white? Or why some sunsets are fiery red and others watery yellow? The reason is that the mixture of particles in the atmosphere is constantly changing. Every color in the sky comes from the Sun. Sunlight is white, meaning it is a mix of every color in the rainbow. As it passes through the atmosphere, gases, dust, ice crystals, and water droplets split it into various colors, bouncing some toward our eyes and absorbing others. The colors we see depend on which colors are reflected and which are absorbed. Clear skies are blue because gases in the air reflect mostly blue light from the Sun. The sky gets paler when extra dust or moisture reflects other colors, diluting the blue.

Experiment: Red and Blue Skies
It is not always easy to believe that all the colors in the sky come from the way particles in the atmosphere reflect and absorb sunlight. However, you can demonstrate it yourself with this simple experiment. The effects are subtle and not always easy to see, so conduct the experiment in a very dark room. Fill a straight glass with cold water, then add half a teaspoon of milk.
Now, shine the torch at the glass from different angles and observe how the color of the milky water changes slightly. Hold the torch close to the glass for a better effect.
Add another half teaspoon of milk and repeat the experiment. Finally, add a full teaspoon of milk and try shining the torch at the glass from various angles.

Do Not Eat!
Some plants are very dangerous
Different parts of a plant can be poisonous. In some plants, the berries are deadly.
Sometimes plants have seeds and nuts that are poisonous.
Some have leaves or roots that are poisonous. Sometimes all parts of a plant are poisonous.
Never eat a plant unless you know it is safe to eat.
Prickly Plants
The nettle plant has tiny prickles that can get into your skin.
Other plants have thorns or spines that can prick you.
These plants can make your skin burn or bleed. Stay away from prickly plants.

Have you ever wondered why your ears have a funny shape?
Your ears are shaped to gather sound. Animal ears are also shaped to help them hear the sounds they need to hear.
A horse needs to hear soft sounds from far away. This allows it to run away from danger before it's too late.
Dogs can move their ears to hear sounds better. A dog can point one ear in one direction and the other ear in another direction, helping it determine where a sound is coming from.
Beavers live most of their lives underwater. A beaver has small ears that can close up, allowing it to swim without getting water in its ears. Beavers can hear sounds better underwater than they can on land.

Have you seen a pretty rainbow in the sky? You might see one when it rains.
A rainbow forms when the Sun is low in the sky and there are drops of water in the air.
Rainbows cannot form if there is no water in the air.
To see a rainbow, the Sun must be behind you, and there must be water in the air in front of you. The drops of water reflect sunlight back to your eyes.
As raindrops reflect sunlight, they split it into seven colors.
Red is on top, followed by orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
Remember the order of the colors with the name ROY G. BIV.

Look around you. Can you find something mode of steel? Some paper clips, door handles, and cars are made of steel.
Steel is made from iron mixed with carbon. Iron is a metal found in rocks. Rocks that have metals in them are called ore.
How do steelmakers get iron out of ore? They melt iron ore in large ovens. The heat furns the solid ore into a liquid. Then they odd a little carbon.
The Equid melal is poured into sheets, rods, wires, and other shapes. Then the shopes cool.
The sheets, rods, and wires are then used to make things such as cars and paper clips.

Imagine it is dark outside, and heavy rain is falling. The weather is really bad. Suddenly, you see a very bright flash.
What just happened?
A thunderstorm is taking place.
The storm produced lightning, which is electricity. Lightning happens during all thunderstorms.
Lightning is a warning to get to a safe place. It is very dangerous.
During a thunderstorm, tiny pieces of ice bump into each other inside clouds. This bumping creates electricity.
The clouds fill up with electricity and must release it. Lightning comes out of the clouds.
Lightning is very hot. It heats the air around it. The hot air makes thunder. Thunder cannot hurt you, but lightning can. Stay inside during a thunderstorm.

Weather is everywhere.
Antarctica has the coldest weather on Earth. It gets as cold as -89°C (-129°F).
That's so cold that boiling water freezes instantly.
Antarctica is a very large piece of land that covers the South Pole. Most of Antarctica is covered by ice. Ice floats in solid blocks in the ocean around Antarctica.
Winter in Antarctica is very long. The Sun doesn't rise at all for many weeks. It is dark all day and night. During the rest of winter, the Sun shines only a few hours each day.
Very few plants grow in Antarctica. Most of the animals live in the ocean, not on land.
Many animals live in Antarctica only in summer. It is too cold in winter, and they cannot find food. These animals go to warmer places. The extreme weather affects all life in Antarctica.

The hottest weather on Earth can be found in Death Valley, North America. Death Valley is also one of the driest places on Earth. Some parts of this desert get fewer than 5 centimeters (2 in.) of rain each year!
What can live in such a hot, dry place? Small shrubs, cacti, and other plants live in Death Valley. Many animals live in Death Valley, too.
Snakes, foxes, and scorpions are some of the animals that live there.
Death Valley is part of the Mojave (moh-HAH-vay) Desert.
This desert stretches across parts of southern California and into Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. The desert weather affects what can live there.

Do you know that your shadow changes shape? In the morning or evening, the Sun is low in the sky. Your shadow will be longer then. it stretches because your body blocks a lot of sunlight.
In the middle of the day, the Sun is higher. Your shadow will be shorter. It is smaller because your body blocks less sunlight.
Your shadow changes when seasons change, loo. In winter, the Sun is low as it crosses the sky. This makes your shadow longer in the winder, in summer, the Sun is high as it crosses the sky. This makes your shadow shorter in the summer.
You don't change shope, but your shadow does!
